Patriarch Abune Paulose will be laid to rest on Thursday at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa



Addis Ababa,August 17, 2012: It has been reported that the final resting place of the deceased Patriarch Abune Paulose will be at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The funeral will be held on Thursday 23rd of August 2012. The Divine Liturgy will begin by 6 am and funeral rites are expected to start by 9 am.

Delegations from various Oriental, Eastern Orthodox Churches and ecumenical organizations are expected to attend the funeral ceremony. The Indian Orthodox church has confirmed that they will send a high level delegation to attend the funeral

The Holy Trinity Cathedral was built to commemorate Ethiopia’s liberation from Italian occupation. It is considered to be the second most important place of worship in Ethiopia, after the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum.

The late Patriarch Abune Tekle Haimanot has been buried in churchyard.

The Cathedral also hold the tombs of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I and Her Imperial Majesty Empress Menen Asfaw, and other members of the Imperial Family. It is alos the final resting place of the British suffragette and anti-fascist activist Sylvia Pankhurst.
