Etchmiadzin, August 18, 2012: On August 17, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, conveyed condolences to the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, to their clergy and to all the Ethiopian Orthodox Christians on the occasion of the death of Abune Paulos, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
The messages to the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church stated in part:
"Patriarch Abune Paulos of blessed memory shepherded the Ethiopian Orthodox faithful with great zeal and devotion for over two decades. Through his efforts, the Ethiopian Church made significant progress towards fostering and renewing the spiritual life of the Ethiopian Christians and contributed to the ecumenical and inter-religious dialogues.
The fraternal relations between the Ethiopian Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic Churches were well manifested during various official visits and encounters. We witnessed his deep Christian love and piety during our personal meetings and dialogues.
…We pray that God eternal receives the soul of the blessed Patriarch in His Heavenly Kingdom; May the Holy Spirit grant consolation to the clergy and faithful flock of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church."
On August 23, a delegation of the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church will participate in the burial service of Patriarch Abune Paulos.
